What is Biele Media Digital Signage Widget Platform?

Biele Media Digital Signage Widget, a content management system (CMS) hosted on a cloud server, is one of the easiest yet a powerful way to manage dynamic content on your digital signage screens. With the help of this CMS, you can instantly display information like Images, Weather, RSS feeds, Video, Clock, YouTube videos, twitter embedded timeline, google calendar and much more on your digital screens.

It offers a low cost android, windows as well as linux platform based player software system which can drive your digital signage screen and can be managed from anywhere in the world.

How to Sign-Up ?

Are you ready to take control of you digital screens? Let's get started with the Biele Media Digital Signage Widget Digital Signage software as a Service CMS? Click on this link and fill-in the following details;

Enter Company Info

User Info (Enter main user account details)

On signing up, you will receive a welcome email containing your Company ID information. You can now login to the CMS.

What Can I Play & how?
The platform allows you to play following content;
  • Multimedia Widget - Images (jpg, gif, png), Video (MP4) and Audio (mp3)
  • Text Widget - Free format text messages with custom formatting and animations
  • Clock Widget - Date & time information with custom formatting
  • Ticker Widget - Free format text or RSS feed (including twitter feed) scrolling ticker with custom formatting
  • Web Widget - External web page as well as HTML embedded code or widget from external website such as Twitter embedded timeline widget, Youtube embedded code or weather widget from accuweather.com
  • External Data Widget - Pull infromation from external database or site in the form of JSON format and map each field with either Multimedia widget (for image or video element) or Text widget for other information and create a dynamic dashboard.

It allows you to create a presentation with multiple widgets splitting a screen into 1 or more zones. Each widget can play 1 or more contents for a specified duration independently from each other.

Create a quick presentation.

Once you login to your member's area, you can quickly get started with designing your presentations by importing one of the predefined presentation from our presentation library.

Click on 'Presentation' menu from the bottom panel and then click on 'Import' button to load the above presentation library.

Click on the 'Download' link by hovering the mouse on desired presentation to import the presentation details along with associated content into your business account.

You can import 1 or more presentations from the predefined presentation library.

Once imported, go back to 'Presentation' library and you will find newly imported presentation in your library. Click on 'Edit' action icon to edit the presentation.

After you have finished editing the above presentation and saved it, the next step is to create a Playlist of collection of 1 or more presentations scheduled in a sequence with predefined duration. The same Playlist will be published to your media player which will display the presentations as per the schedule.

Assets - Import your content into the assets media library

How to upload an Asset/Content?

The 'Assets' section of the CMS, allows you to upload and manage your multi media content such as images, video and audio files. Click on the Assets menu from the bottom panel to load the media library.

It support following contents;

  • Images - JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF
  • Video - MP4
  • Audio - MP3
How to Add/Upload Assets?

Adding/uploading content to the Assets Library is rather easy;

Click on the button with "+" sign and follow the upload window.

To add file(s) to the list, click on the Add Files button and a pop-up window will open. Browse through your computer and select the file(s) you want to upload. Alternatively, you can drag and drop the file(s) on to the Drag files to upload area.

Click the Start Upload button and wait for the process to upload all your files.

You can search for an asset by using the search menu from the media library. Click on search button and in the pop up window, ype either file name or format type to filter the list. To reset the media library, click on Show All button.

Once your files are uploaded, the next step is to create a presentation.

How to Delete Assets?

Unwanted files can be deleted from the Assets Library. Check the box on the left besides of the unwanted file and then click on the Rubbish Bin icon to remove the file from the library. If the file is scheduled in any presentation, a warning message will pop up to inform the user to remove it from the presentation first and try again.

Presentations

What is Presentation?

Presentation is a slide with collection of different content widgets. You must have used Microsoft Office Powerpoint software to create a presentation. In the MS Office PPT, you can create 1 or more slides and host images, text, videos or excel or word file in each slide and may be add some animations to each element.

It represents a single slide created in MS Office PPT file. The way you can mix and match different elements i.e. text, images, videos etc in a PPT slide, you can also add different widget elements on Presentation and create a slide.

Once you have different presentations ready, you can create a Playlist of collection of presentations and publish it to the media player.

The CMS provides predefined presentations which you can import and kick start your campaign straight away.

How to Design a Presentation?

After you upload your content in the Assets Library, the next step is to build/design your signage presentations.

Click on the Presentation menu from the bottom panel to load Presentation Library.

The CMS provide you predefined presentations (for Restaurants, Education, Health Care and Hospitality sectors) which you can import into your Presentation Library and modify it and kick start your campaign. To import a presentation, click on the Import button from the presentation library to load the template library window. Hover your mouse onto the presentation you like and click on the Download icon to import the presentation. Once imported, click on the Edit action icon to edit the presentation.

If you want to create a new presentation from scratch, click on New button from the library and follow the screen below;

Presentation Properties

Name : Enter name of the presentation.

Back Image : Drop down the box and select any image file as the background for your presentation if you wish.

Back Color : Drop down the back color box to set up presentation background color if you wish. By default it is transparent. To setup a solid color, move the horizontal RGB color slider from left to right. Select a color and click on 'Choose' button.

Presentation Width : Presentation width represents the width (in pixel) of the screen resolution setup on the media player. i.e. 1920 X 1080 or 1280 X 720. Enter appropriate width in the field.

Presentation Height : Presentation height represents the height (in pixel) of the screen resolution setup on the media player. i.e. 1920 X 1080 or 1280 X 720. Enter appropriate height in the field.

Layout Canvas : Layout canvas is used as a placeholder for all the widgets.

Panning Controls : Panning controls are used to zoom in/out the layout canvas. You can move the canvas using mouse by enabling 'Panning' option.

Widgets : Widgets are the elements which you drag from the toolbar and drop onto the canvas. You can resize and re-position them using mouse or you can enter the values manually.

Multimedia Widget - Schedule image, video and audio files.

Text Widget - Schedule multiple text messages with custom formatting.

Clock Widget - Schedule date and time element with custom formatting.

Ticker Widget - Schedule free format text or rss feed with custom formatting.

Web Widget - Schedule external web page URL or embedded HTML code from external website.

Preview Presentation - Click to preview the final presentation.

Stop Preview - Click to stop the preview.

Paste Widget - This option allows you to duplicate existing scheduled widget from the canvas. For example, you can scheduled a text widget and setup all the formatting i.e. font name, font size, font color etc. and have added some text message to it as well. Now you want to duplicate the widget with same style but what to schedule different text messages in it. So you right click the existing widget, click on Copy menu to copy the widget. Now click on the Paste Widget from the tool bar to duplicate. Now all you have to do is schedule new text message.

Now drag any of the widget from the left panel and drop onto the layout canvas. Now click on the dropped widget and right click to access its content menu. You can modify it's properties or add/remove content using the context menu.

Once your presentation is ready, click on the Save button to save and go back to Presentation Library.

How to use Multimedia Widget?

Multimedia widget allows you to schedule images, videos and audio files in it. Drag and drop the widget on the canvas, right click the widget to see the context menu and click on Properties & Schedule menu to load window on the right panel.

From the right panel, You can manually set the Width, Height, Left and Top Position properties. To schedule media content for the selected widget, click on the "Schedule" tab from the right panel;

Drag 1 or more media files from the bottom Media Library and drop on the above Multimedia Widget Schedule list. If you wish to change the playing sequence, drag the row by #Seq value and drop over the position where you want to move.

You can also select multiple content from the assets media library by checking the box and then drag one of the selected content and drop onto the schedule list.

To modify the duration or animation properties associated with the content, click on "Edit" menu and follow the screen below;

Intro Animation field allows you to setup animation on each file.

If you want to mute the sound of a video file, check the Mute box.

Once you are done with the changes, click on the "Update" button to close the right panel.

Other Context Menus

Remove : Click to remove the scheduled widget from the layout canvas

Bring To Front : Click to bring the selected widget in front of the widget which is top on it.

Send to Back : Click to send the selected widget back of the widget which is scheduled below it.

Copy : Click to copy/duplicate the selected widget.

How to use Text Widget?

The CMS allows you to schedule text messages with custom formatting using Text Widget.

Drag the Text Widget from the left side toolbar and drop onto the layout canvas. Right click the widget and click on the Properties & Schedule menu to load window on the right panel.

The widget can be resized or repositioned either by using mouse drag or by manually entering the values on the Properties panel.

For Text Widget, you can select font, specify it's size in pixel, select font weight or style as well color. You can also specify the alignment as well as decoration property such as underline, overline etc.

To schedule a text message for the widget, click on the Schedule tab and then click on the Add New Text button from the top right corner and follow the prompt below;

Type your message in the Text Item field, select duration in seconds and intro animation and click on Save button to add a text message for the widget.

Note: If you wish to add a text message with multiple lines i.n. having carriage return between each line, please add
HTML tag at the end of each line for carriage return.

Example :

Large Coffee< br /> Extra Large Coffee< br /> Medium Coffee< br /> Small (ignore the tag for last line)

You can add more then 1 text message for a widget and play them in the sequence.

You can change the sequence of the message by dragging the #Seq column value and move at the desired position.

To hide the Properties & Schedule panel, click on the Update button from the top right corner.

How to use Clock Widget?

If you wish to show date and time on your presentation, it's very easy with Biele Media Digital Signage Widget CMS. You can use Clock Widget.

Drag and drop Clock Widget from the left toolbar onto the layout canvas. Right click the widget and click on the Properties & Schedule menu to load window on the right panel.

The widget can be resized or re-positioned either by using mouse drag or by manually entering the values on the Properties & Schedule panel.

For Clock Widget, you can select font, specify it's size in pixel, select font weight or style as well color.

By default, the widget will show both date and time. If you wish to show either of the element, un-check the appropriate box and click on Save button.

How to use Ticker Widget?

The CMS allows you to display scrolling ticker along with your other content. Drag and drop Ticker Widget from the left toolbar onto the layout canvas. Right click the widget and click on the Properties & Schedule menu to load window on the right panel.

The widget can be resized or re-positioned either by using mouse drag or by manually entering the values on the Properties & Schedule panel.

Now select the font family, enter font size in pixel, select font weight and style and color. You can also select background color for the ticker widget.

Feed Type : Select Text if you wish to show a custom text message. Select RSS if you wish to show rss feed from an external website i.e. http://feeds.bbci.co.uk/news/rss.xml

Feed Text/URL : If you have selected Text feed type, please enter your text message which you wish to scroll. For RSS Feed, please copy and paste the rss feed URL into this field i.e. http://feeds.bbci.co.uk/news/rss.xml

RSS Fields : If you have selected RSS feed type, you have an option to display either the title field of the RSS data or description or both.

Feed Separator Char : If you have selected RSS feed type, you have an option to display separator character between two feeds. Enter the character(s) in this field.

Scroll Direction : Select Left option if you want to scroll from right to left, select Right if you want to scroll from left to right, select UP if you wish to scroll from down to up and select Down if you want to scroll the text from up to down.

Scroll Speed : Enter number value. Higher the value, slower will be the speed of the ticker.

How to use Web Widget?

Web Widget is mainly used to display external website or an HTML embedded code. Drag the Web Widget from the left side toolbar and drop onto the layout canvas. Right click the widget and click on the Properties & Schedule menu to load window on the right panel.

Embedded Code : Copy paste embedded code provided by external website. This can be a weather or stock prices, a twitter or you tube embedded code.

How to use set up Weather Widget?

The CMS allows to display weather information using Web Widget. Following sites provides weather information through embedded code;

Follow the instructions to build a weather widget using Web Element;

  • Drag and drop Web widget on the canvas
  • Go to the above website, and copy the embedded code provided by the site;
  • Accuweather - You can pick any of the widget size (small, medium, large or extra large), use the fixed location to search the location, choose the default unit and check the box to accept terms and condition and click on 'Grab the code' button. The pop up window will provide the embedded code.
  • TheWeather - Go to the website and build the code using form designer. Copy the code from item 6.
  • Right click the Web Widget and select Properties & Schedule menu.
  • Paste the code which was copied from above website into Embedded Code field.
  • Click on Update button to close the right panel
  • Preview the presentation and adjust the widget size.
How to use set up Youtube Widget?

Go to Youtube.com and preview the video which you wish to stream using CMS. Right click the video file and click on 'Copy video URL'.

Now Open the presentation window and drag and drop Web Widget and open the properties panel.

Paste the above copied URL into the 'Embedded HTML Code' field i.e. 'https://youtu.be/c8aFcHFu8QM'.

Preview the presentation and save it.

Note: The youtube video must be accessible for public view.

How to use set up Google Calendar?

It is very easy to load Google Calendar in your presentation using Web Widget. Follow the instructions below to configure and load Google Calendar;

  • Log into your Google Calendar account.
  • Click on the Setting cog icon from the top right corner.
  • Click on Settings menu.
  • Click on the 'Calendars' tab.
  • Click on the calendar item which you wish to load in the presentation.
  • Copy entire text from 'Embed This Calendar' field value. You can also customise the look and fill by clicking 'Customise the colour, size and other options'
  • Now open the Presentation in which you want to show the calendar.
  • Drag and drop Web Widget and resize it. Select 'Web Widget Code' as widget option from the drop down box.
  • Paste the above code into the 'URL/Widget Code' field and preview the presentation. Resize the widget according to the size of the calendar.

Playlist

What is Playlist?

As of now, you must have created 1 or more presentations in your library. Now it's time to create a collection of 1 or more presentations as a Playlist and prepare a schedule.

To create a Playlist, click on the Playlists menu from the bottom menu bar to load Playlist Library. Click on the New button to load a panel on the top as follows;

Playlist Name : Enter the name of playlist.

Sequence Schedule : The left panel is for sequential schedule. This is your default schedule which will loop throught the day. Drag and drop one or more presentations from the presentation library onto the schedule grid. By default each presentation will be set to 'Play non-stop'. To edit the duration, click on the edit button and change to desired duration.

To change the sequence order, drag the sequence column value and drop at the new position.

Time based Schedule : The right panel is where you can schedule a particular presentation to be displayed at a specific time of the day. Drag and drop any presentation from the library and drop onto the time based grid. Click on edit icon to modify the timeline details;

Every Day : This setting will play the presentation every day at the specific time setup in the below window;

Selected Days : This setting will play the presentation on the selected day(s) at the specific time;

Date Range : This setting will play the presentation during the date range specified;

Click on Save button to save the playlist.

Media Player Hardware Requirements

The platform offers an android, windows as well as linux versions of player software. Following are the minimum requirements to install and configure the player software;

How to Configure/Manage a Player?

So by now, you must have created your presentations and a playlist with collection of your presentations. It is time to configure the player hardware.

  • Plug your android or windows or linux media player hardware with your digital screen.
  • Power on the media player and configure the network and internet connection.
  • On Android media player, go to Settings -> Security -> Check the 'Unknown Sources' box under 'Device Administration' section.
  • Launch web browser and go to the CMS login page.
  • Login to member's area using your credentials.
  • Click on download icon from the bottom left corner to download the installer/app.
  • On Windows media player, unzip the downloaded installer file and run the MSI package to install the software.
  • On Linux media player, unzip the downloaded installer file, browse to the unzipped folder, select 'Player' file, right click it and click on 'Make Executable' menu. Now you can launch the program by double clicking on it.
  • On android platform, once the app is downloaded, click on the 'player.apk' file to install the app.
  • Launch the app and follow the prompt below;

CMS Server URL : The url path to your CMS server.
External Server : If you are not hosting the CMS server in your premise and on your own hardware, Select this option and leave the default value.
Self Hosted : If the CMS is hosted on your own hardware, please enter valid CMS server URL here i.e. http://{IP Address of Server}/signageCMS
Click Next button

Login Information : Enter the login credentials which you use to login to CMS. Click Next button.

Player Name : Enter user defined player name i.e. Screen 1 or Lobby Screen 1. Click Next button.

Location/Group Name : Enter user defined location or group name. This field will be useful in the CMS to search the device from the player list. Click Next button.

Playlist Information : Select the playlist which you want to display on the player. The playlist can be changed from the CMS later on. Click Next button.

Update Frequency : Enter the update frequency value in hour:minute:seconds format. The same value will be used by the player application to check for new updates on the server.

Proof of Play : Check the box if you wish to collect proof of play information. It will also gather other diagnostic information and update on the CMS. Click FINISH button.

The process will register the player information on the server. By default the player will have 15 days trial license assigned to it. You can login to CMS and extend the license to another 1 month or perpetual license and you will be billed for selected license duration. Please refer 'How to extend player license' section for more details.

The process will download all the playlist and presentation information along with scheduled content into local hard drive.

Your player is successfully configured now.

You can login to CMS and load the 'Players' section to checkout registered players list and also manage them.

FAQs :
Can i disconnect the internet from the media player?

Yes you can. Once the Player app is configured and all the details are downloaded successfully, you can disconnect the internet from the media player. When you launch the Player App by using the shortcut, the media player must have an internet connection. Once the app is launched successfully, you can disconnect the internet.

How do i stop the player app on android media player?
  • On android media player, click on the back or home button.
  • On windows or linux player, press CTRL + C key combination together

The above process will launch a controller window. from the controller window you can either;

  • Stop the player app
  • Launch Player Configuration Window to change settings
  • Reset the player to factory settings
  • Close the player app
How to Publish & Manage Players?

To manage your players, login to the CMS and click on the Players menu from the bottom menu bar to load Players List on top.

Player Details : This column shows all the necessary details about your device i.s. Name, location, playlist assigned, update frequency etc.

Activation Details : This column shows activation information.

Last Update On : This column shows the date and time the player device was last updated or seen.

Last Download Status : This column shows no. of content successfully downloaded and playing on the device.

Last Ping Status : This column shows last ping status. The status will be 'ON' if current date time is within 5 min. range from the 'Last Update On' date and time provided the update frequency is set for less then 5 min duration.

Last Preview : With the 'Last Update On' date time, the player will also capture a screenshot of currently running schedule and update the image in the CMS server.

License Status : 'Active' - Player has valid license. 'Retired' - The license period the on the player has expired.

Publish Playlist : When you make any change to the presentations or playlist referenced by the player, YOU MUST reset the Publish flag so that the player app will be notified of new changes. Click on this menu to send the update notification to the player.

Edit Player Configuration : If you wish to change the player configuration from CMS i.e. replace the playlist or change the update frequency used by the player, click on this menu and follow the prompt.

Extend License : If your player license has expired, click on the extend icon and follow the prompt to extend the license either by '1 month' or 'Perpetual' license. Once you extend the license, please restart your player application.

Delete Player : You can remove the player device by clicking on the delete button.

Manage Your Business Account

How to change my business account or user details?

Login to CMS and click on the 'Cog' icon from the bottom left corner to load business account panel

Modify the business account details and click on "Update" button to apply changes.

To change system User details or password, click on edit icon next to the default user name from the right panel

Change the details and click on "Save" button.
